Webinar series: Pathology and Image Analysis
Joint ESTP/BSTP/SFTP and ECVP/ESVP webinar

Webinar 1 – Where are we about integration of image analysis into a quantitative pathology workflow?
Webinar 2 – Where are we heading to in future?

These 2 webinars will review image analysis (IA) use cases and larger IA projects, how computing will further change the way pathologists and imaging scientists work in the industry, for safety, efficacy in disease models and other purposes.

Although AI has long been used traditionally and occasionally for specific purposes, supervised AI approaches based on machine learning, particularly deep neural networks, are now substantially improving both how image analysis is performed and its overall performance compared with traditional methods such as color pixel segmentation. In the near future, generative AI and unsupervised or reinforcement approaches may further transform how pathologists evaluate and diagnose lesions.

Finally these 2 webinars will stress how veterinary, toxicologic, comparative and experimental pathologists will be involved in this revolution, and how they will be working with Imaging Scientists and IT engineers.

Webinar 1: Where are we now?
Tuesday November 17, 2026: 16.00–17.30 (Berlin time)

This is the first one of a series of 2 webinars.

How is the machine now able to practically assist the pathologist? Not only with histological section analysis but also to get insights into mechanisms and adversity of unusual changes?

This webinar proposes to show current practical examples of projects in the pharmaceutical industry and reflect on the current status and integration of IA, not only image analysis, but also the pathologist’s workflow… and how IA is becoming an “ancillary tests” to improve and accelerate the evaluation and scoring, as well as mechanism and hypothesis testing.

We will be presenting current general image analysis workflow and recent field cases, notably how the machine performs compared to 1 or several humans in common situations of morphological change evaluation in tissue sections.

Webinar 2: Where are we heading to?
Tentative date and time: most probably in Q1 2027

This is the second webinar of a series of 2 webinars.

In this webinar, we will explore how the next generation of ML, such as latest algorithms of generative AI will transform the way pathologists work in toxicologic pathology.

Recent and/or currently developed systems will be presented like the ones under the umbrella of the Bigpictures Consortium and other initiatives.

Both webinars will discuss the anticipated role of the veterinary and toxicologic pathologists with this explosion of new tools, and how she/he will keep control of the data output, most notably in regulatory toxicologic pathology for safety purpose.

Duration: 90 minutes
